Teeth and Glitter

Sydney lost her first tooth yesterday.  It had been loose for a while but I thought she still had a few more weeks with it.  Thank the good Lord above that as soon as it was first discovered to be loose I immediately went to Target and stocked up on loot for the "tooth fairy" to leave under her pillow.  She was so excited about the whole thing.  Here she is with her first ever gap-toothed picture:

It's so cute but I have to admit I am a little sad about the whole affair.  I'm mostly excited for her but bummed out for me.  I remember when she only had one little tooth for months.  I clearly remember a 9 month old picture of her with a big, wet, slobbery grin and the one tooth sticking up through her gums.  So, so sad.

However, I think it's awesome that it came out with absolutely no tears and no pain, and since it's only a matter of time before she has to have some teeth pulled for braces, every tooth that comes out on it's own is like a win-win, right?  The first time she ever went to a dentist the dentist took one look in her mouth and said, "WOW, this is the most crowded mouth I have ever seen in my entire career.  Better start saving now braces."

Awesome.  So like I said, high five for every tooth that comes out on it's own.

Immediately after the tooth came out and I took her picture, she had to get on the phone and call everyone we know.
I did the whole tooth fairy thing up right, too.  We decorated a cute little box to put under her pillow, and when Chris and I tip-toed in that night to make the swap, I put a little glitter under her pillow "from the tooth fairy."  She was so stinkin' excited she woke up way earlier than usual and was loving every minute of getting some treasure from a "real" fairy!  I still can't get used to her new smile, but it is so precious.  She seems like such a big kid now!  Next big milestone...starting kindergarten.  Help me now, this mama's going to cry!

How fun that she already lost a tooth! I'll be thinking of you as she starts kindergarten...how can it already be that time?!
