Today I am sick. I could feel it coming on for the last few days and last night it hit me hard. First thing this morning I sent Chris, aka my Knight in Shining Armor, to the store to get what always makes me feel better when I'm sick:
Saltines
7-UP (and no imitation, no Sierra Mist or anything like that)
And the grand finale, the thing that makes me feel better no matter what, Vicks VapoRub.
This is very odd, right? You're probably thinking, "Really, she's blogging about Vicks?" Oh yes, friends, and if you were smart you would run out and buy some immediately. It's the best of the best and I've had a love affair with Vicks since I was a child. Back in the day, when I was like 4 or so, I had a humidifier that you poured Vicks into. My parents found me one night eating the Vicks straight out of the humidifer. I had to be rushed to the ER and have my stomach pumped. Totally worth it, though. I LOVE me some Vicks. I would totally eat it now if I could. Something about that smell, and the burn-ey feeling it gives when rubbed on, it's amazing. At the FIRST SIGN of sickness for me or the girls (Chris never gets sick), I immediately bust out the humidifier (the regular kind, not the kind where you pour Vicks in because I don't want to tempt fate) and the Vicks. The humidifer actually kills bacteria in the air, did you know that? And Vicks, when rubbed on the tops of the feet as well as the chest, will help shorten a cold. It works almost every time to prevent a cold from becoming worse. I've had Sydney wake up with a snotty nose and horrible cough, but after one day and a night with the humidifer and Vicks, she's as good as new.
So, that's on my agenda for today. I've got my Vicks on and tonight the humidifer will be hard at work in my room. The 7-UP and saltines just make me always feel better, too. It's always what my mom gave me when I was sick as a child, and to my it just equals comfort. What makes you feel better when you're sick?
Oh, and as for the name of the post. As I was searching for a Vicks picture, I found the phrase "The VapoRub Family" on their website and I thought it was cute. I think we, as in me and Chris and the girls, could also be called the VapoRub Family!

Maybe Aubrey is secretly an offspring of yours?? This child eats/licks/smears vaporub on herself whenever she can find a jar of it. We hide it, she finds it....fortunately its not the liquid so we have not had any emergency room visits, but I knock on wood as I say this as I too, don't want to tempt fate! Praying you all feel better soon =)
