Christmas Songs

Lately there has been lots of Christmas music playing, and I love it. But I was feeling a little snarky today, and a Christmas song came on that is not one of my favorites, so for you today is my list. My list of Top 5 Stupid Christmas Songs, which will then be followed by my Top 5 List of Fabulous Christmas Songs.
Top 5 List of Stupid Christmas Songs:
1. Jessica Simpson's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. Besides the fact that this is a Brenda Lee classic and shouldn't be re-done, Jessica sings it too "breath-ey." Which I know is not a word, but it sounds like she's panting through the whole thing. Is it possible to make love to a song? That's what it sounds like.
2. Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas. Gotta love the King, but gotta hate this song. "I-I'll ha-have a blue-ue-ue Christmas..." Stutter much?
3. The Eurythmics Winter Wonderland. It's just not very Christmas-ey to me. And that opening sequence, the music is too bizarre-o for a Christmas song. They should just stick to Sweet Dreams (sing it with me now, "keep on walking on broken glass").
4. Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas. Do I really need to explain?
5. And finally, the Christmas song I hate the most, Brenda White's Christmas in the Northwest. I'm sorry if you don't live here in the Northwest, because then you've never heard it, but trust me, you're not missing much. My least favorite line is "Christmas in the Northwest, it's the gift God wrapped in green." (Now you can picture me vomiting under my compuer table). Bleh. If you've never heard it, you can at least go to I-Tunes and listen to a sneak peak of it, it's truly terrible. It's almost worth the $.99 to buy it so you can get a good laugh.

Now, the Top 5 Fabulous Christmas Songs:
1. Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. A strange combo, I know, but it works and it's a catchy, different spin on the song. Love it.
2. Andrea Bocelli and Mary J. Blige What Child is This. Another odd pairing, but my sister told me about this one last year and I can't get enough of it. Such a pretty version of this song. It always make me wonder, though. Mary J. Blige is singing her heart out about a Mary. I wonder if that's weird for her? I couldn't sing about a Dara. Weird.
3. George Winston's entire December album, especially The Holly and the Ivy. It's just George and his piano, and it's so pretty and soothing amidst all the holiday hustle and bustle.
4. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas/Sarajevo. BUM-BUM-BUM-BUM, BUM-BUM-BUM-BUM, MAN IS THAT SONG POWERFUL! I heard from a co-worker it's almost too loud and powerful live, but it's great on my I-POD.
5. Amy Grant's Tennessee Chrismas. Stop laughing. I know, a bit cheesy, but this song represents my childhood holiday memories. I remember listening to this record on my little pink record player (I said, stop laughing) and loving it. Good times.

And now, my Christmas gift to you, my favorite all time SNL Christmas video, which is a holiday classic!
